Whatsappitis: Get addressed with Ayurvedic natural and herbal treatments.
Sudden on-site thumb and wrist pain could be a sign of Whatsappitis. It is a repetitive stress injury that is serious as it affects the quality of life of many in Western life. It can be tendinitis / tenosynovitis / a combination of both.
The incidence of Whatsappitis is very common in younger age groups during this pandemic due to social detachment and continuous involvement in digital/ social media.’’ Says Dr Jijo Blesson, Medical Director Chief consultant, Kottakkal Ayurvedic Treatment Centre, Ajman.
Many are fed up with the continuous Over counter pain killers which can relieve pain but not the condition as such ‘’ she says.
In 2014, the prestigious medical journal The Lancet has declared that ‘WhatsAppitis’ is a credible disease after diagnosing a 34-year-old-patient with “bilateral wrist pain” induced by over-use of the messaging app.
If left untreated, it may lead to Carpal tunnel syndrome with numbness of fingers, continuous pain, tingling, burning palms, etc.
As in all diseases, ‘Prevention is always better than cure. It will surely be difficult to abstain completely from social media in this digital era, but we can surely reduce and have postural modifications while using smartphones.
Ayurveda offers you many lifestyle modifications, anti-inflammatory herbal therapies like Dhara, Pichu, Veshtanam, Lepanam, etc. The medications and therapies are not painkillers, but they will be helpful to reduce and cure inflammations from time to time and prevent further debilities.
Ayurveda gives you hope for this condition as always with natural treatments.
